Future Resolution: Invite One Person to Islam

I read on one of the motivational blogs this advice (given to a graduate student by his mentor):

When I started doing my own research after completing my graduate coursework, I was advised by a mentor to have three descriptions of my work ready to recite at a moment’s notice: a three-minute overview, a 12-minute presentation, and a half-hour discussion. The three-minute version is what you tell someone when you’re sharing an elevator at an academic conference; the 12-minute version is suitable for giving a conference presentation; and the half-hour version is what you pull out when you’re sitting down for an interview with a potential funder or getting permission from a local community to do research there.

What a great advice which one can implement in almost every field of life to give an introduction to things like your job, your country, your opinions on a certain topic but most importantly YOUR DEEN: ISLAM.

We as Muslims living in the West have a mission to explain our beliefs to people; our job is to be messengers for our faith. We will not force anyone to accept it but the least we owe ourselves and the people who live in our circles is to give them a brief introduction to our religion.

Ask any Muslim (including myself): tell me about your religion? or why do you consider your religion to be the truth? Most people would start up by saying: uhmm, well, you see, in Islam, we worship one God and you know….. or they would just say the 5 pillars of Islam. The listener deserves a more intellectual, thorough and complete response about something that we consider to be very important to us.

This is what made someone like Sheikh Deedat (may Allah have mercy on him) and Dr. Zakir Naik so effective: preparation and intellectual sentence structure.

My resolution for this coming time of my life is to invite someone to Islam. To tell him: Give me 3 minutes of your time and I will tell you all about my religion.

Ofcourse, this needs some dedication and research. I have outlined some steps which I will try to carry out inshaa’ Allah (God willing). If you have modifications/additions please list them down. My plan is to have something in written form around February of 2008. Attached is a mind map to achieve this resolution.

  1. As-salamu Alaikum,

I very much agree with this. If we made this like our individual thesis and spent time on it to have it prepared for presentation, i believe it will take as a long way in calling people to Islam. I like this idea and would want to do this. I will suggest also a version for Muslims. What 3,5,10 minute presentation will we have to remind fellow Muslims we meet and how to at least wake them up. I will like to work on this with you…but I will need a lot of encouragement. Jazakullah Khairan.

  4. To have this intention is a great welling, we all looking forward for a result and would love if we are part of who reach to this result.

I would like to start by suggestions if you allow me:

I do respect you all, but still to reach to this result we need to invite a well-appointed team consists initially of the following to participate to come up with something effective:

    – Psychologist
    – Psychiatrist
    – Sociologist
    – Respected Religious Man

And to start by a curricular method like the following:

    – Who are our targets?
    – What exactly we need to put in their mind to start with and leave the curiosity for them to look for information
    – What are the targeted ages?
    – Who are our targeted nations?
    – What language we are going to paraphrase with

    ..
    .
    .
    .
I just realized that alone i couldn’t complete my comment above so how could I come up with the TI3m (The Ingenious 3 minutes).

It is a research, no it is a great doctorate paper that really need hard efforts but the result is most great thing a human could come up with (except prophets).

I would like to be part of this if after you select a committee decides that i am eligible.

Note: Still I believe the TI3m could be found in the Holy Quran if we search intending to find it.

Thanks on behalf of all Muslims at least for the idea.

    Best Regards.

  5. straight forward and Concise… i liked that.

When i was in binghamton, I gave a presentation to muslims on “what to tell others about islam”.
I will send you the presentation to your email accout zaid.
This presentation might help us in our research phase.

I remember I used the story when ja3far bin abi taleb presented islam to aannajashi.
I also remembered how i put 6 major points to be memorized when people ask about islam (and it’s not the pillars of islam or the articles of faith as many people tend to think)

    One of them is:

    – Every deed we do is an act of worship (to touch upon the comprehensibility of islam)

remind me to send the presentation in case i became late. the thing it’s on my laptop at home. not here with me in work.

bas…. as i said i liked the idea. keep working on that.

  7. i just want to thank all of you because i was searching in google about how to invite someone to islam
by the way i am only 16 but i am sure that even i can make a different
    here are some tips
1-you should write a basic 3m brief about islam then start discusing how to improve it (this way is faster and better because everyone will share ideas)
2-some important topics that we should never forget
A-talking about creation and saying how did Allah unlimited powers created the whole universe not only the tiny earth
B-thanking Allah for his blesses e.g. eyes, ears, being borned in a peaceful place with a father and a mother
C-what would of happened if anyone in us was borned before discovering electricity or borned in the middle of a crossfire or borned as a slave

    thank you for reading
    bar’ka Allah fikum
